            California History and Performing Arts

            Picture
Mother Lode was a performing troupe for many years, presenting Western history based original musical shows.  It morphed into an educational organization, with emphasis upon California history.  It creates original shows, prepares curricula units, and offers workshops.   We work with local Native Americans, scholarly experts, and artists to ensure accuracy and high quality.

I chair the Board of Directors, manage its website, and write materials for the classroom modules.  Click on the logo for more information.

            Petaluma 'Ukulele Club

            Picture
Is anything more fun than this instrument?  When I took it up at a music camp, I knew I had to share it with others.  In winter of 2007 I started this club, which has grown to steadily and spung off satellites around the county.  We jam weekly, have a monthly look at new songs around a theme, underwrite workshops, and raised money to buy ukes for our at-risk youth in town.  A subgroup also performs at fund raisers and community groups.  We play Hawaiian music, of course, but everything else: pop, jazz, silly songs, funk, blues, World, Old timey, you name it!

We list our events and music charts at our Yahoo Group, Petaluke.  Click on the photo to connect.

The Sitting Room: A Community Library

            Picture
This wonderful organization is a totally volunteer library devoted primarily to works by and about women.  It is home to a variety of literary and artistic events, including writing workshops, readings, a book group, and more.  It raises funds for a local woman's shelter as well.  Membership is free, and grants access to the library for one's own enjoyment, whether reading, researching, or relaxing with a friend.

In addition to managing the website, I am also Editor of the annual publication.  This volume asks contributors to address a particular theme, and submit a one-page story, poem, essay, or black-and-white art work.  The theme for 2011's publication is "Lost or Found."   All entries welcome!   Click  the photo for a link to the site.
